Kunming, China was under the spotlight on Thanksgiving, November 26, 2015 in the United States as Macy's Thanksgiving Parade, for the first time, presented the spectacular scenery of Kunming and the richness of Chinese ethnic culture.
Kunming, known as "the City of Eternal Spring" for its pleasant climate and flowers that bloom all year, was portrayed vividly on a float at the 89th Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City in front of 3.5 million people during the parade and over 50 million on television.
Kunming Officials and Chinese ambassador Zhang, Qiyue attended the Chinese traditional opening ceremony before the official kick-off of the parade
The float, 'Stone Forest from Kunming: China-A Natural Wonder in the World,' was presented by the Sino-American Friendship Association (SAFA) in conjunction with Macy's and supported by the Kunming Tourism Development Committee and the Kunming Stone Forest Scenic Area. It was a delicate replica of Kunming's UNESCO heritage site.
The marvelous Stone Forest was showcased in the center with Chinese decorations as the float welcomed Macy's delighted parade goers along the route for its blend of Eastern and Western cultures and urged people around the world to visit Kunming.
Atop the float was a troupe of performers, including dancers waving the flags of famous tourist sites in Kunming, as well as a dance group of 70 Chinese and American performers dressed in Chinese traditional costumes. Chinese costumed nationals representing Kunming, joined millions, including those watching via television and around the world, in cheering the float on.
